The City of Aarhus has prepared a development plan for the Bassin 7 area that is part of the new waterfront development in the city. The plan includes a large, distinctive building complex with 251 housing units and a number of activity centres. The client behind the 21,500 sqm housing floor space is Kilden & Mortensen. Large balconies will add a total of 9,700 sqm, and the basement and car park facilities will occupy an additional 11,000 sqm, while the activity centres and shared facilities will occupy another 7,100 sqm. The total useful floor area will thus be close to 50,000 sqm.

MT Højgaard has been entrusted with the construction of the buildings, which have been designed by the Bjarke Ingels Group. The planning also involves Gehl Architects, known for being involved in the creation of urban environments throughout the world, consulting engineers Moe, local urban developers Rune Kilden and Michael Mortensen.

“In terms of quality there’s no doubt that this will be one of the most exciting housing projects in Aarhus, and we are of course very pleased to have been entrusted with the construction of the buildings. We’ve had a good, in-depth dialogue with the client and the consultants and have identified the best solutions for all aspects of the project, which will therefore fully match its unique location,” said vice president Torben Bloch Nielsen, MT Højgaard.

Construction begins in early May 2016 and is scheduled for completion in 2018. The contract to be signed with Kilden & Mortensen, worth in excess of DKK 500 million, is subject to certain conditions, which are expected to be met in March 2016.

When it materialises, the project will have a positive effect on the MT Højgaard Group's consolidated revenue and earnings.

Forward-looking statements are inherently subject to risk and uncertainty which may cause actual developments to differ materially from the guidance provided.
